A Level Philosophy Tuition

A Level Philosophy explores some of the biggest questions there are: does God exist? How can we live a good life? How do we know that other people have minds? How do we know anything at all?

Perhaps you are studying Philosophy as part of the Religious Studies A Level – we can help you too! We look forward to some lively debates with you about the Problem of Evil, the nature of the divine and the arguments for the existence of God! We also offer tuition in all other aspects of the Religious Studies A Level

We provide online private tuition, ad hoc or short term tutorials and home schooling. Click the links to meet your tutor or find out what we offer or read five minute summaries of some of the main topics you will need for your exams!

Dr. Jane Orton has a PhD in Classics and Philosophy, in which she looked at the impact of mathematics on the philosophy of Plato. She also did her first research Masters’ in the development of Classical Greek political philosophy and her second Masters’ involved quite a lot of research into Buddhist philosophy.

Jane designed and taught philosophy courses at the University of Edinburgh when she was completing her PhD, and has university level and A Level exam marking experience. She has tutored students in the main UK exam boards, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, Eduquas and SQA.

“Jane was very helpful and approachable and I would certainly recommend her. For philosophy she was able to provide resources and evaluation which is what I was struggling with the most. I am very much looking forward to our future sessions.”

- Angus (A Level Philosophy)

“I’ve been fortunate to have Jane through my A levels. I’ve been provided with amazing resources and opportunities to grow my knowledge that has helped me enormously through my courses thanks to Jane’s work and dedication. I would highly recommend anyone to use her wide range of expertise as it will definitely be of great use!”

- Ethan (A Level Religious Studies and Philosophy)

Jane says:

Quite often students are surprised to find how quickly sessions go by and how much material we’ve covered in the time we’ve spent together. We might spend one session focusing on content for a particular topic, followed by another session devoted to essay planning, feedback and what examiners are looking for. Our tutorials will be geared towards what you need to know for your exams, but we won’t lose sight of what makes your topic exciting.”

“It’s likely that you chose your topic as it interested you, and that interest needn’t be sacrificed for the sake of checking off a list of exam board requirements! I’m a huge believer in adventure – I’m also a boxer, I ride a Honda 600cc Hornet and have toured America on Harleys and other cruisers as a musician - and I don’t believe that being a scholar should mean being cut off from the real world or confined to a library. Your A Level studies should be exciting, empowering and part of your own intellectual adventure.”
